Empathy

Wich character do you identify most with?

I can really identify with Gerald. He has his own opinion and doesn't cry around like Sheila and Eric all the time. He keeps calm and tries to solve the Problem and stay honest. Also, I can relate to his actions in the past. He saved the girl from getting harassed and gave her a home. He's truly a good guy like me. He's empathetic.

In what ways do u wish a character will change?

I hope Gerald is getting out of this innocent cause he really did his best. Also I wish Eric will get punished for his vices. I hope Mr. Birling comes to understand what he did and stops denying that it may be his fault. My wishes for Sheila are that she gets cooler and stops telling the whole truth. Also i hope she stops crying and get calm. Mrs. Birling is probably not having a big role in the future. I hope Edna will get more important in the story cause at the moment i dont see why she's even in the story.

    Interesting. You do realize that Gerald wasn't just nice to Eva though? He also had an affair with her.

    Remember "I" is always written in capitals.
    I can really identify me with Gerald --> I can really identify with Gerald
    herrased --> harassed
    do u wish --> pay attention to those colloquialisms!
    and stop deny that it^s maybe his fault --> and stops denying that it may
    be his fault

Characterization Arthur Birling He is the husband of Sybil and the father of Sheila and Eric. He is a heavy-looking man in his mid-fifties, with good manners but rather provincial in his speech. He is the owner of Birling and Company, some sort of factory business which employs several girls to work on machines. He is a Magistrate and, two years ago, was Lord Mayor of Brumley. He is a man of some standing in the town. He describes himself as a "hard-headed practical man of business," and he is firmly capitalist, even right-wing, in his political views. I really like his wisdom although I'm not sure if he's really that wise or just pretend to be. He is very angry as he hears that he should be responsible for Erica Smith's dead, cause he would have had the chance to get on the Honour List soon. I think he is kinda selfish. Reading Journal Blog Entry 9

Reflection What I learnt personally I love the book's message. You should think more about the consequences of some actions. You can hurt people so quickly with the most stupid things, even if you dont realise it at the moment. So you should be carefully what you do and think about it twice always. Also I did learn, that drinking and partying doesn't solve problems, more likely it causes them as you can see in the example of Eric. I can't imgaine being responsive for someones death and how I would react. The book shows this quite good. Sometimes you just need to be more empathetic and try to feel what others feel. I also learnt, that you should never trust a person you dont know without questioning who he is (Inspector Goole). Don't believe everything you get told, start questioning it. Start questioning people. In conclusion, I can say that the book has shown a very sensitive side of life. 156 Words

Reading Journal Blog Entry 7

Characterization Part 2 A short letter to J.B. Priestley Dear Mr. Priestley I am just reading your book and I am stunned. When I started reading I wasn't that impressed. It was quite boring and nothing happened, but i kept reading because we had to read it for a school project. As I kept reading, the story and the characters got more exciting with the time. I was really impressed at the point where the inspector got in and Edna said "Please, sir, an inspector's called". That nearly gave me goosebumps. From that scene on the book got better and better. I love how the characters interact and how the whole story upon to this point where I'm writing keeps playing in only one single room. I really like the style of your writing. The dialogues are very thrilling and well written.  Please see this letter as a praise for your work. With this book you give such an important statement into the world. I really appriciate that.
